Maintain Your Wellness Over the Festive Break

After two years of constant changes and ups and downs, and now with the most recent revelations and global news, it is safe to say that staying atop of it all is by now a tiresome task. With business and the economy being in flux and restrictions changing by the month, we are all stressed and concerned for our future.

It is vital that despite living in a volatile time, that we keep afloat as much as possible. It is easy to slip into stress and panic. In this blog post, we have compiled some tips and guidance on how to maintain your wellness, unwind and destress over your holiday.

Socialising

The holidays come with the inevitable gatherings of friends and family. Despite government restrictions allowing groups to gather, remember that you always have a choice in whether you’d like to gather with people:

  • –  It is okay to say no to invitations for gatherings.
  • It is okay to leave a gathering early.
  • Don’t forget that the holiday time is a time for you to rest from a stressful year, remember to be honest with yourself about your energy levels.
  • Celebrating should be done within your own capacity and time; don’t over-exert yourself.

Personal Time

  • Nothing is more important in your holidays than time for yourself. We are always having to worry about everything else happening around us throughout the year such as work, school/university, kids, family and friends. The holiday time is your time to connect/reconnect and focus on yourself. The end of the year usually comes with a bit of pressure to socialise and be around people – however, this does not have to be the way you choose to spend your downtime:
    • Prioritise yourself and how you’d like to spend your time.
    • Focus on resting, avoiding screens and doing what you enjoy. Our lives have taken a shift with remote working-from-home: statistics have shown that employees tend to work overtime or have a lot more workload (due to layoffs and short of staff) when working from home. We do not see remote working going away any time soon. Therefore, it is possible that a lot of us are burnt out. Keep this in mind when planning your off-time, some of us find it more difficult to completely rest and relax without thinking about work. We recommend detaching yourself from work and immersing yourself in “me-time”.

    Destressing and Unwinding

The most important tip we can give is to destress and unwind as best as possible. When January comes around, the stress of our lives begins again. As much as the working year is over, the pandemic is still at full force and the holiday time is your window to relieve yourself from stress and worries:

    • Everybody’s situation is different since the emergence of COVID-19, therefore our stress levels are varied.
    • Take the holiday time to look within and really spend time with your thoughts – without the hustle of our day-to-day lives throughout the year.
    • Taking this time will aid you in carrying you and your headspace into the new year.
    • Confront the things that set you back or stressed you out this year.
    • Write down your thoughts and goals for 2022: even if you don’t typically journal or use writing as a way to organise your thoughts, you might in this instance that writing can be a great tool in plotting your new year’s vision, planning and goals. Ultimately, we believe that a healthy mind equals a healthy life. With so much change happening in the world, it is very important that we step back and observe ourselves; making sure we are paying attention to not just situations happening in the world, but ourselves and our health. Losing ambition and a positive attitude is bound to happen when there is volatility, but remaining strong-headed and willing will reap benefits for you once we have passed this tumultuous time. Impress Printers wishes you a safe, healthy and happy festive break!
